What is clear powder coating?

Clear powder coating serves to add a clear gloss, matte or satin finish to any other color. It provides depth and luster to the surface. It is a second coat and applied to items while still hot for a second curing process. Adding a second layer to a product gives additional levels of durability and UV protection to powder coating finishes.

What colors are available?

There are a large variety of stock colors, metallic, textures, high temperature powders, superdurable, thermoplastic powders and so many more. Our sales staff is available to provide samples and available options for color and product selection.

What makes powder coating environmentally friendly?

Powder coating is environmentally friendly because there are no volatile organic compounds (VOCs), no solvents and no other pollutants released into the air. Oversprayed powder is recovered and the waste from the powder coating process is minimal and it can be disposed of easily and safely.

How should the surface be prepared for optimal coating?

Surface preparation is critically important to the achievement of perfect results. Each project requires detailed inspection to eliminate any potential for glitches in the process from start to finish. Surface preparation is always discussed with our sales staff prior to beginning the job.

Surface preparation includes, chemical stripping, media blasting, hand sanding, and pre-treatment of the items.

What is powder coating?

The powder coating process uses a solvent free mix of dry plastic resins, pigments and fillers that melt and fuse together when heated. The solid particles of coating are electrostatically charged in a spray gun and carried by a low velocity air to the surface of the item to be coated. The electrostatic charge holds the powder particles in place white the part is cured in an oven at the optimal temperature. The heat in the oven causes the powder to cure, creating a highly durable and perfectly even finish.

Does the Powder Coating Process Offer any Other Advantages?

Powder coating is a very environmentally friendly process and very cost competitive compared to liquid paint. In fact, many powder coatings cost less than equivalent coatings formed from liquid paint, because powders are 100 percent solids, efficient powder recovery provides nearly 100% material utilization, the coating line can be completely automated and requires very little maintenance. Continual development of new, lower cost coating powders lowers costs, and continuous recovery of over-sprayed powder is the key to economical production of powder coating. Powder recovery systems can reclaim up to 98 percent of overspray for reuse.
