The Powder Coating Process

The Approach That Delivers Exceptional Results

The process we follow at JAS Powder Coating is very fine-tuned. We pay attention to the smallest of details, which turns out incomparably high quality products.

Our two huge ovens (the largest in South Florida) are 30′ X 11′ X 8′ and are capable of running simultaneously. All of the equipment we use is new and of the highest quality, including Gema spray-coating guns, and our products for pre-treatment and paint are top-of-the-line. Top quality equipment and premium products yields a higher quality outcome.

Each step in our process is carefully executed to create an end result that will delight you!

#1 Surface Preparation

The first step in the JAS Powder Coating process is media blasting. Media blasting is the process of smoothing, shaping, and cleaning a hard surface by forcing solid particles across it at a high speed. Media blasting not only removes rust and surface contaminates, but it also gives the metal a fine texture that allows the powder to adhere tightly to the surface.

#2 Pre-Treatment

The next step in the process is pre-treatment. Pretreatment is the most important part of the process. In the pretreatment process, everything is washed with a strong degreaser that takes off the oil and dirt on the surface of the metal and an acid used for opening the pores of the metal. This allows the powder to become a part of the metal, eliminating the possibility of subsequent peeling, chipping or delamination.

The chemical products that we use in pretreatment are from Calvary Industries.

#3 Powder Coating Process

The final step in the process is powder coating. The powder coating process uses a solvent-free mix of dry plastic resins, pigments and fillers that melt and fuse together when heated. The solid particles of coating are electrostatically charged in a spray gun and carried by a low velocity air to the surface of the item to be coated. The electrostatic charge holds the powder particles in place while the part is cured in an oven at the optimal temperature. The heat in the oven causes the powder to cure, creating a highly durable and perfectly even finish.

We are certified as an applicator by Sherwin-Williams, and use several well-known, high-quality powders, depending on the finish we are trying to achieve.
